Nyelv, reflecting on the events leading up to his death, laments the many possibilities that could have been. He wonders where exactly he went wrong in turning Lage Nine into Vram. He points to the moment where he first made a deal with Lage Nine, and suggests that might have been the turning point, and begins telling the story of another possibility.

In the alternate possibility, Nyelv looked into Lage Nine’s past and discovered that Lage Nine was similar genetically to Comel Amarga. Nyelv visits Kenzo Suga to show him the Vrastumgear and ask for advice. Suga suggests that revenge is the most powerful spice, and gives Nyelv some bitter coffee jelly to match.
